Global Guidelines

The guidelines and information below applies to the entire forum.

Do

• Be Nice And Polite

  Every member deserves to be treated with respect. Positive and polite posts create a friendly and welcoming environment that all members will feel comfortable in.

• Search

  Most questions have been asked before, searching for an answer to a question before posting gets a question answered faster and keeps duplicate content low.

• Think Before Posting

  Sensible, well thought-out and legible posts help other members understand what you are trying to explain.

• Report Content

  Reported content is sent to staff members for review, if a post needs to be removed or modified then reporting will make that happen.

• Post In Relevant Section(s)

  Posting in the most relevant section will ensure topics are seen by members most interested in the subject. Topics posted in the wrong section will be moved by moderators.

Do Not

• Use Profanity

  As a family friendly forum we censor all profanity, however the censor is not an excuse to still swear; all posts that contain any instance of profanity will be removed. This includes profanity within acronyms. Self-censoring is also not allowed.

• Bump Threads

  Posting in a topic only to bring it back to the front page of the forum is not allowed, a topic should only be on the front page of a forum if there is active discussion taking place.

• Spam

  A spam post is a post that provides no value to the discussion. The most common spam posts are posting "tl:dr;", "+1", "this", posting image macros, and nothing but memes or images. These sort of posts really rustle our jimmies.

• Post Duplicate Threads

  Posting duplicate topics around the forum is considered spam. There is no need to clutter the forum by posting multiple instances of the same thread.

• Reply to Inappropriate Content

  If inappropriate content is posted the report feature should be used, replying to inappropriate content escalates the issue and can result in all involved parties receiving infractions.

• Trade or Sell Minecraft Accounts

  We do not allow the sale of Minecraft Accounts, if you wish to acquire a Minecraft account please purchase via Minecraft.net. The sale of Minecraft Cape codes (eg: Minecon 2012 Cape) and any other game content is also disallowed.

• Offer or Request Services/Products

  With the exception of the Minecraft Server Hosting section and the Shops/Requests section, we do not allow members to trade or sell services/products. Forums are for discussions, they are not a market or trading place.

• Post Giveaways

  Member-run giveaways or contests that require performing a specific action for entry (eg: subscribe to my Youtube channel, follow me on Twitter) are not allowed.

• Advertise

  Advertising a website in your signature is acceptable, however creating topics about your website is not allowed. If you want to advertise on minecraftforum.net please contact the Curse advertising department.

• Misuse Money Linking Services

  Sites that provide incentives for generating clickthroughs (such as adf.ly) are only allowed to be used for downloads of content that you created. We report any abuse to the site operators and will often result in the relevant accounts being shut down.

• Hoax

  Deliberately posting misleading or inaccurate information to confuse members is unacceptable. This includes sightings of Herobrine.

• Access Accounts Without Permission

  The only member permitted to access an account is the owner, unless permission is explicitly granted by that member.

• Troll

  Trolling of any kind is not tolerated. Accusing someone of trolling, which is known as "Troll Calling" is also disallowed, eg: "Stop trolling", "You're a troll!". If someone is trolling they should be reported.

• Flame or Provoke

  Do not insult or flame other members of the forum. Similarly, do not post with the intention of provoking a reaction from fellow members. This includes encouraging flame wars. Instigation is not tolerated.

• Grammar Harass

  Please do not correct or insult other members grammar/spelling. Grammar harassment does not add to the discussion, and is not tolerated.

• Use Referral/Affiliate Links

  Linking to websites that provide you with cash or prizes in return for getting people to view their page is not allowed. This includes affiliate programs.

• Necro Post

  Please do not reply to extremely old threads unless you are continuing substantial discussion of the topic. Contentless bumps which add very little to the discussion will be removed.

• Post Provocative/Offensive Material

  Provocative and/or offensive material of a sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate nature is strictly not allowed. Please consider the types of content posted to a family friendly forum. Always ensure your content is both "Safe For Work" and suitable for children.

• Misuse Alt Accounts

  Using a secondary account to evade bans/suspensions, misrepresent a topic, self-rep or encourage misinformation is not allowed on the forums.

Illegal Activity

• Piracy

  Distribution of any content not owned by the member is unacceptable, this includes all forms of media piracy (music, film, video game etc). This rule also extends to linking to sites that primarily function as a facilitator of piracy.

• Redistribution of Mojang Property

  Minecraft and all associated assets are property of Mojang. Redistribution of Mojang owned property (for example Minecraft.jar) is not allowed, all posts must remain inline with the Minecraft Terms Of Service. Linking to Mojang hosted files is acceptable, eg: assets.minecraft.net.

• Hate Speech

  As a family friendly and all inclusive community we do not allow any form of discrimination, this includes -- but is not limited to -- age, race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion and sexuality.

• Spread Malicious Content

  Viruses and malware are forbidden, any intentional distribution of either will result in permanent exclusion from minecraftforum.net.

Section Specific Rules

Each section (and individual forum) may have individual rules. Sectional rules do not contradict the global rules however they may require your posts to be in made in a specific way or contain information not required in other sections.

The sectional rules are also included in this document, after reading through the remainder of the global rules you can scroll down to find the sectional rules.

Moderator Action

The following information is about what to do when you find people breaking the rules and what happens if you break the rules outlined above.

Reporting A Post

Rule breaking posts should be reported by any member that comes across them. There is a "report" button on every post, when a post is reported the moderators of the site are alerted, reports automatically include the post content. Reports should contain an explanation of why a post is being reported.

Any content that needs moderator attention should be reported. There are no penalties for mis-reporting content.

Mini Modding

Mini-modding is replying to a rule breaking post with information on the rule break. Some forms of mini-modding are allowed: If a member has broken a section specific rule (such as posting in the wrong section or not including required information) members are allowed to reply to the member explaining what rule has been broken and how to fix the issue. To be acceptable "Mini-modding" the post must meet the following requirements

• Explains which rule the post breaks
• Explains (where necessary) how the poster can rectify the issue
• Does not make statements such as: "reported", "I've told the mods", "This will be locked now" etc.

Then the member must report the post. "Mini-modding" without reporting the post is not allowed.

Infractions

When a rule is broken an infraction will be issued. There are 2 types of infractions, formal and informal.

Informal

An informal infraction is used to remind a member that they have broken a minor rule for the first time. Informal infractions are used as a record of when a member has been informed. There are no infraction points issued with informals, they do not count towards the posting suspension limits.

Formal

A formal infraction is issued when a rule has been broken and we believe continued violation of this rule should result in a posting suspension. A formal warning can have between 1 and 10 points associated with it, the average formal warning has 1 point.

Points

Every 30 days infractions "expire" and the current total of a member's points is reduced by 1, should they remain infraction-free for that month. If a member reaches a specific point total within 30 days posting suspensions are issued, the point total and suspension lengths are as follows:

• 1 Point No action
• 2 Points 3 day posting suspension
• 3 Points 7 day posting suspension
• 4 Points 7 day posting suspension
• 5 Points 7 day posting suspension
• 6 Points 14 day posting suspension
• 7 Points 14 day posting suspension
• 8 Points 14 day posting suspension
• 9 Points 14 day posting suspension
• 10 Points 30 day posting suspension

Permanent Bans

Permanent bans are never automatically issued, they are reserved for members that we believe to be detrimental to the minecraftforum.net community. They are issued to members that continually break the rules and do not provide any value to the community.

Disclaimer

The administrators and moderators are responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the site. The staff reserves the right to take whatever action is deemed appropriate in any given situation, regardless of whether there is a specific rule covering that situation or not. If there is a misunderstanding or dispute, then please bring the issue up politely with that staff member in private. In all matters, the decision of the administration is final.

Help And Support

Support is provided to minecraftforum.net members through the Contact Forum Administration section of the forum. Private Messages are not an official method of requesting support and we do not guarantee that a private message sent to any staff member will be replied to.

Moderator Applications

Active members of the community are encouraged to apply to be a forum moderator. Information on what being a moderator entails is available here and applications can be submitted via the application system.

Ban Appeals

If you wish to appeal a minecraftforum.net ban, please send an email to banappeal@minecraftforum.net including your account information.

Minecraft Discussion

General Rules

• Server threads and server advertisements are not allowed in this section.

Recent Updates and Snapshots

• Discussion of released features and features from within snapshots only

Future Updates

• Discussion of speculated, hinted and announced Minecraft features only
• Suggestions are not allowed

Suggestions

• No Duplicate Suggestions

  Do not post duplicate suggestions, if an idea has been shared before continue the discussion in the pre-exisiting thread.

• No Vague Suggestions

  Suggestions that are vague or unclear will be removed, for proper discussion to happen suggestions must be well explained and if necessary, well demonstrated.

• Existing Mod(s)

  If a mod exists that provides part (or all) of the suggestions request linking to the mod is encouraged, however do not use the existence of a mod to dismiss the suggestion. Suggestions are primarily for vanilla Minecraft features.

• No Wishlists

  Do not post more than one suggestion per thread. Very closely related suggestions are fine, but separate suggestions require separate threads. "Wishlists" will be closed or deleted.

Redstone

This section is for discussing Redstone and pistons. This section includes Redstone tutorials, asking for advice on using Redstone and posting creations made using Redstone and pistons.

• Redstone Only

  The focus of this section is Redstone itself, do not discuss creations that are not made using Redstone and/or pistons in this section.

Seeds

This section is for posting and discussing seeds for maps that are considered impressive in some way. Posting downloads of un-edited maps in this section is also allowed but the seed must also be provided.

• The seed must be provided in the OP (original post)

• No Edited Maps

  Do not post any maps that have been edited, these maps should be posted in the "Maps" section of the forum.

• Seeds which are offensive or contain profanity will be removed

Mapping And Modding

General Rules

• No linking to sites that require a person to do surveys or require personal information, such as cell phone numbers.
• Do not ask or pressure content to be updated
• Topics that contain a download must have a direct download link, but can include alternative links, a definition of those can be found here

Minecraft Mods

Any released mods or content packs belong here.

• Must modify the minecraft.jar file or be an extension to an existing mod
• Must contain the class files, .exe only downloads are not allowed
• Topics must have embedded images or videos
• Topics must follow the tagging format, which can be found here
• Topics must have an installation guide
• Any required permissions must be displayed in the original post
• Smp "hack" and "cheat" mods are allowed, however any designed for griefing are not allowed

Mod Discussion

Only if it doesn't fit in other mod sections does it go here. Please check all others first.

WIP Mods

Incomplete mods only. If the main features of the mod are not complete, it belongs in here. When the mod is complete, and the title is formatted correctly, download link and pictures are in the topic, report the topic for it to be moved to "Minecraft Mods".

Requests / Ideas For Mods.

Place your mod ideas or requests here.

• Topics must be either a request or an idea for a mod
• Posting "there is a mod for this" is not allowed unless the mod is linked in the post

Modification Development

Only topics for the advancement of mods. The mod has to have already been started. Get help with coding and development here.

Download Links

• Direct Links

  A direct link is either a link where clicking on the link will download the file without going to another page or the page's purpose is to download the file. An example of a direct download link is using dropbox or mediafire links, where the link is only used for the download. These links may be used with monetary linking services.

• Alternative Links

  An alternative link is a link that is used for other things besides being a download page. An example of an alternative link is sites like Planet Minecraft links, where the link is used for other things as well. These links may not be used with monetary linking services.

Tagging Format

When needed, topics that are required to follow the tagging format should include the following in the title

• Version of MC it applies or is made for
• If it requires addition mods or content

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

• Do not partake in or create platform wars

  Please do not make threads or comments regarding one platform being better than the other as they encourage flame wars within the community.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Servers

Servers is the section for PC specific posts to be made.

Do Not

• Sell Items And Services

  This goes for virtual items and services as well as real-world items and services. The only exception to this rule is hosts selling Minecraft server hosting.

• Advertise Another Server

  Advertising a different server in an existing server topic is not allowed.

• Advertise Other Sites

  Advertising other sites that are not selling Minecraft server hosting is not allowed. A host must sell Minecraft servers to be allowed to advertise in the Minecraft Hosting Section and Other Host sections.

• Reserve Posts

  There is no reserving of posts or any "First!" posts. The OP should be used for this instead. These posts are considered spam and a waste of space.

• Use Affiliate Links

  Using affiliate or referral links is not allowed in any section.

• Post Multiple Topics

  There is only allowed to be 1 topic for each server or idea. There is also a posting limit of one topic every 10 days, 30 days in Hosting, this applies to all but Server Administration

• Post "Grief This Server" Topics

  This also includes looking for members to help you grief or recruiting for griefing teams.

• Blacklists

  Blacklist and "ban this player" posts/topics are not allowed as they have been used to hurt people before.

• Copy Paste Posts

  This is considered spam and is not allowed in any section, even if the post is relevant to the topic.

• Use ASCII Blocks

  Black ASCII blocks are not allowed in your topic title.

PC Servers

• Cracked servers are not allowed to be advertised
• Only 1 review per member
• Stealing another server's original post is not allowed, this is considered spam and plagiarism
• Encouraging bumping of any topic is not allowed
• Discussing of non-server related topics in a server topic is not allowed. An excessive amount of off topic posts can lead to a temporary or permanent lock of the server topic
• Servers may be removed or banned at the staff's discretion
• Servers are to be posted in the section that best fits what the server offers, a description of the sections can be found here
• Do not start or feed drama or attacks on members and/or servers

Looking For

• Posting video-related/let's play topics is not allowed
• Only threads looking for specific servers, staff members, builders, or ideas are allowed
• General server advertisement threads are not allowed
• Copy-Paste replies are not allowed, replies must be relevant to the topic
• Replies to a topic may only be made up to 7 days after the last post by the OP
• Replies must use words, using pictures that contain all the text is not allowed
• Replies to a topic must follow the guidelines outlined in the original post

Minecraft Server Hosting

• At any time, a host may be removed or banned from posting in the hosting section at the staff's discretion
• Any feedback about a host should remain in a host's topic
• Excessive Arguments or complaints are not allowed, and should be taken to a PM
• Support related posts are not allowed. Use the host's own support system or send them a private message
  • Informal warnings will be issued for continued support posting
• A host must apply to post in the default section, otherwise they must post in the "Other Hosts" Section
• Posts requesting a custom quote go in the Hosting Requests section
• All hosts may not post in the topic of any other host. Host-to-host conversation must be taken to a PM
• Hosts may offer giveaways in their topic, however the topic is not to be used for posting applications
• The Hosting Request section is not to be used for recruiting staff for hosts, this may be done in the host's topic
• Replies to requests must meet all needs outlined in the original post and not contain irrelevant information

Clans

• No malicious clans or teams are allowed, this includes but not limited to griefing or hacking clans
• Do not use an existing clan's name for a new clan name
• Each clan is allowed only 1 topic

Server Types

• Survival Servers

  The traditional style. Build, mine, and survive in the classic minecraft style with - or without - allies. Such servers do not offer a long-term goal other than surviving.

• Creative Servers

  Servers that allow players to freely build either by giving creative mode or though the use of unlimited items and similar concepts.

• Objective Servers

  Servers that differs from regular minecraft survival style. These servers offer a goal or objective players are to reach. Some examples are prison, spleef, and Hunger Games.

• Hybrid Servers

  Servers that offer multiple gameplays to players. These servers have at least 2 of the types listed above.

Minecraft Support

• Threads can be "Bumped" every 12 hours if no one responds

  This is allowed in this section because users actually need a response in this section.

• Do not request support for cracked servers and/or cracked clients

  We do not support the use of cracked clients or cracked servers, and therefore will not allow people to request technical support for a cracked client/server.

• Do not participate in OS/Platform/Browser wars

  No one operating system, Platform, or browser was meant to run minecraft, and making topics or posts supporting a single os/Platform/browser will just degrade into flaming and trolling.

• Do not Redistribute property of Mojang

  Do not distribute any property of Mojang to other members on the forum. This includes: the minecraft launcher, the minecraft Jar, and the Minecraft server client.

• Do not give out or request personal information

  Personal information includes: Your location, your birthday, your transaction id, and credit card details. This information can be used to steal your Minecraft/Mojang account, and should not be given out under any circumstances.

• Do not request help on Topics that do not relate to your issue

  If you cannot find a topic that relates to your issue, then make a new topic about your issue. Posting on random support threads will just make it harder for other people to get support.

• Do not post forum support questions in this section

  Forum support questions belong in the Forum Discussion & Information section

Tutorials and FAQs

This section is meant for tutorials or FAQs relating to its appropriate parent section. This thread has information on how to submit a tutorial or an faq.

• Threads must be kept up-to-date

  All threads in the Tutorials and FAQs section must be kept up-to-date. If you fail to update your thread, it will be updated by a moderator or removed from the section.

• Threads in this section may be removed at any time

  Threads may be removed from this section if it contains incorrect information, if it is out-of-date, or if an update renders the guide useless.

• Video guides are not allowed

  Guides that contain a solely a video will not be allowed, this includes threads with a small amount of text and a video. However, it is fine to have a video alongside a textual guide.

• Do not ask for support in this section

  Do not request support on tutorials or FAQs in this section unless it directly pertains the thread. Please create a thread for your issue in the parent section.

Minecraft Game Client Support

This section is for requesting support with an unmodifed client.

• Do not ask for help with redstone

  Redstone questions should be asked in the Redstone section of Minecraft General.

Modded Client Support

This section is for requesting support with a modified client.

• Do not distribute modified Minecraft Jars

Server Support

This section is for requesting support with the server client. Anything non-bukkit server technical support questions should go here.

• Do not advertise your server in this section

• Do not make blacklist threads

  Do not post threads that tell people to ban a certain user from their servers.

• Do not ask for Bukkit support

  Bukkit questions should be asked on the Bukkit Forum.

Server Administration

• Posting "there is a plugin/mod for that" without linking in the post is not allowed
• Necroing (posting on an old topic) is not encouraged
• Read the pinned topics before posting to avoid unneeded spam for questions that are addressed in those topics

Mojang Accounts / Minecraft.net Support

This section is for questions about Mojang's websites, such as minecraft.net, or your Mojang account.

• Check help.mojang.com before making a thread

  Mojang's help website, help.mojang.com, contains useful information that can help you resolve your issue. You can check Mojang's server status, and find solutions to common account issues there.

Show Your Creation

• Minecraft related creations only
• One topic per creation
• You may only post your own work, not the work of others
• Constructive criticism is encouraged, being rude is not
• Any creations which involve swearing must be tagged to inform members of this
• Excessive caps and symbols are not allowed in titles

• Titles must describe the content of the screenshot

• Inserting Images

  Each topic should contain an image inserted into it. Images can be inserted following Opeth's guide.

Videos

The video sections are for sharing Minecraft related videos. Videos should be posted in the appropriate section type. Topics made in the wrong section will be moved.

• Embedded Videos

  Each topic must contain at least one embedded video. Topics that only link to a Youtube channel will be removed. A guide to embedding videos is located here.

• Explanations

  Explanations of the video content must be included.

• Post Only Once

  A video can only be posted once, either in a topic or a megathread. Videos posted multiple times will be removed from each location.

• Griefing videos are not allowed

This section is for requesting advice in order to improve your videos or series, asking for help with software, or where you should seek actors.

  Selling your creations and/or services for money or trading for other services is allowed, however we provide no assurances or protections for customer and seller. If you purchase a service it is your responsibility to ensure the service is delivered, not ours. Any complaints about sellers or buyers will be ignored.

  Operating system vs. operating system and/or console vs. console, browser vs. browser threads always descend into spam, flaming and flamebaiting and are therefore not allowed.
